The Human Nervous System - Calming It Down.
How does energy healing affect the human nervous system?
In our modern day lifestyle, we tend to live in the sympathetic nervous system. This runs us down. Energy healing can restore us.
The sympathetic nervous system activates as our fight-or-flight response to outside stimulus. We are constantly stressed out and tend to live in fight-or-flight state on a 24 hour basis. This state is characterized by faster pulse, as well as quicker and shallower breathing, and a release of adrenaline. As human beings we are not supposed to be in the sympathetic nervous system except in moments of danger when our bodies need to amp up fast to fight a predator or run away. While physical danger is less common in our modern lives, other types of stimulus and stress put us in this same state. Constant sympathetic nervous system activities deplete the adrenal glands and cause a variety of problems.
Energy healing puts us in touch with the parasympathetic nervous system, which is the quiet, regenerative aspect of the human nervous system. It is deeply calming and regenerating. The parasympthetic nervous system is what we want to activate more often in our lives. Instead of draining ourselves by always being ready to run, we want to work to be in a state of nurturing ourselves.
While we may be stuck with the highly stressful modern day lifestyle of 24 hours-a-day stimulation, excitement, information, noise, and light, there are many methods of reconnecting with the parasympathetic nervous system which offer us a way to find internal peace and vibrancy. Meditation, yoga and Jin Shin Jyutsu are some of the ways we can do this.
What is a self help tip for harmonizing the nervous system as a whole?
To help harmonize and calm the nervous system, one can simply hold each finger for 2- 3 minutes and become conscious of the breath.
